CQ Pet Rescue Inc. President Vicki Ferguson was recently interviewed by Kaitlyn Gutzke of CQ News, in regards to pets being given as Christmas presents.
Co-ordinator Vicki Ferguson said the group of volunteers was preparing for a busy holiday period as unwanted gifts are dumped.
“A small, dedicated committee of volunteers has worked very hard to rescue and rehome dogs and cats across the Central Highlands,” Ms Ferguson said.
“We are already starting to see the effects of animals being given as unwanted gifts.
“People think they are cute, they take them home and hubby, mum or dad says no and the poor animals are dumped or taken to the pound.
“Our biggest plea is – don’t give pets as Christmas presents.”
